Devlog #1: Carnival Escape Begins! 🎡

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the first update for Carnival Escape, a creepy 2D top-down shooter where you battle grotesque carnival attractions to escape a haunted fairground. This project is as much about learning to create a game as it is about learning to make my own game art, and I'm excited to share my progress so far!

What's New?

Here's what I've accomplished in this first release:

  • Player Movement and Shooting The core mechanics are in place! You can move around the carnival grounds and fire your weapon to take down enemies.
  • Zombie Doll AI These creepy little dolls will chase the player and deliver a melee attack. They're the first enemy I've implemented, and they're just the start of the horrors to come.
  • Ferris Wheel Boss Battle (Prototype) The iconic Ferris Wheel boss fight is taking shape! Right now, you can experience the basic mechanic of destroying the seats. The Creepy Zombie Clown will drop down for the final showdown in a future update.

What's Next?

Here’s the current to-do list as I continue to flesh out the game:

  • Track and Display Score: Show off your zombie-smashing skills with a working score system!
  • Clown Attacking & AI: The Ferris Wheel boss will soon fight back with its own set of creepy attacks.
  • Power-Ups: Add health boosts, weapon upgrades, and other perks to help you survive.
  • Wave UI: Let players know when new waves of enemies are coming.
  • More Weapons: Expand the player's arsenal with fun and terrifying tools of destruction.
  • More Enemies: Haunted bumper cars, cursed carousel horses, and other creepy carnival attractions are in the works.
  • More Boss Battles: Each section of the carnival will have its own terrifying boss to conquer.

Why This Matters

This release is a huge milestone for me personally. Not only is it my first step into 2D game development, but it's also my first attempt at creating my own hand-drawn game art. The characters, enemies, and environments you'll see are all part of this creative learning journey.

Feedback Welcome!

As the game evolves, I'd love to hear your thoughts! If you try out the current build, let me know what you think about the mechanics, art style, or anything else. Your feedback will help shape the future of Carnival Escape.

Stay tuned for more updates!
